My daughter's dog often comes into the room when I begin to play and
settles down to listen --- which I take as a compliment --- but of all
things, she runs back out of the room in near panic if I use my tuner to
play a reference note of any pitch in any octave.
This makes me wonder whether tuners produce a simple sine wave or square
wave or some other 'unnatural' shape? 'Clarinet waves' attract the
animal.
