It depends on the amount and degree of exposure to direct sunlight and
heat. Someone here recently posted that his or her mouthpiece changed
color when immersed in hot water for a few minutes, I believe. I'm
pretty sure that leaving hard rubber on the dashboard of your car on
bright sunny days for two or three afternoons can do it.
