Yes. Ferree's sells plain tan leather pads for saxes and a choice of plain
tan or plain white kid pads for clarinets (along with other types of pads).
I could swear Id seen plain white kid sax pads in an old catalogue, but
maybe not -- I looked recently for replacements for a Buescher alto sax
from the 1920s that still has the original white kid (in pretty good shape,
too!), but Ferree's doesn't seem to carry those now.
The leather clarinet pads come in 7mm though 35mm diameters, in half-mm
steps, so they're good for everything from Eb sopranos up to contras,
though Ferree's recommends getting the sax pads instead (they're thicker)
for some new models of alto and bass clarinets, including recent Bundies.
They sell some very nice sax pad options, including the thin pads needed
for the Conn "naked lady" 8M, and the Buescher snap-in pads (although sax
pads would be too thick for my H. Bettoney clarinet). Pads can be ordered
by the dozen or in pad sets, For sets, it's best to measure each pad --
don't just give the brand name. Ferree's is having a pre-60th anniversary
sale at the moment, with 30% off on all pads through the end of August for
catalogue customers. The sale may be only for people who have ordered
there before (I got the sale flyer with a snail-mailed catalogue update).
For information about getting a catalogue, check the web site:
www.ferreestools.com
or phone at 269-965-0511. I must be one of Ferree's smaller customers, but
I've done business with them for several years now, and have been very
pleased with the products and the good service.
Thanks very much to all who have replied on this thread. I think I'm going
to dither for a couple more days, then go with white leather.
