I found this post very interesting. In the past four or five years I have
mixed pad types several times on clarinets, depending on the need to solve a
specific problem.

For example, I used white leather pads on the lower four tone holes on a 50
year old clarinet. Nothing else, bladder or Valentino seemed to do the job.

In other cases, I have used a Valentino pad where nothing else has been able
to do the job.

I think that in many cases we all suffer from "linear" or "limited"
thinking, expecting ONE solution to solve all out problems.

I like the kind of thinking exhibited above. Use the pad that WORKS in the
specific situation.
