I use Finale all the time for writing Orchestra scores and such, and
don't usually have any problems when extracting parts. Did run into a
few problems when exploding parts, but it was easy enough to fix.

I have used both Finale and Encore, and I much prefer Finale! I have
been using Finale 2002 since it came out and hope to get 2005 in
September. I think that a lot of the problems will be fixed in the new
upgrade.

I haven't checked out prices, so I can't help you there.
