Klarinet Archive - Posting 001129.txt from 2004/07

Apologies for the delay in response - but I was away on my honeymoon
when this post was sent!!!!
I find that the stretch on my Buffet basset horn is much greater than on
my Buffet bass - and that there are keys on the Basset (especially left
hand D) that I cannot get to.
I've got to the stage where I am going to see if I can have the thing
modified!

I have noticed this myself. I think on the alto clarinet the touches
are
put in a position which represents a compromise between being close to
the
keys and being comfortable. On the bass clarinet the distances are too
great for this approach and they are simply put where they are
comfortable.
I would think this would be an issue on the basset horn, too.
