Yup - we test drove a Chrysler 300 (the new "batmobile" looking car)
and they were charging $4000 over the sticker price. My wife's company
that she works for gets the Chrysler supplier but of course that model
was not included in it.

Needless to say, we ended up buying a Turbo Volvo S80 for not only
just 2% over dealer cost, but got back $7000 cash back in the
process - her work is also a Ford/Volvo supplier too :)

Point is that if the local guy is jacking the customers, no wonder
that they go elsewhere to buy their products. If they don't have a
good and wide selection, why even bother going locally. My local music
store sells a Clarinet kit for $17 that I wouldn't even let my
students use if it were free and I got a kickback from it!
When they pull out the bristle brush to "clean" their mouthpiece, I
ask them if they would use that brush to clean their dad's BMW with
it.......

And yes, there are some good "music store" teachers out there, but
they are the minority by far. Usually it's that they are either very
young and inexperienced (but talented) or it's somebody who just
doesn't have studio space at all at home (apartment, etc) and has to
give a music store 1/2 of their hard earned teaching income.

You see that with high-demand cars all the time. When they first came
out,
PT Cruisers were selling at a couple of thousand dollars OVER sticker
because of the supply/demand ratio.
