Hey Donna,
I've written a bass clarinet scale book for you, myself and others to help
combat these challenges you mention. The book has the scales and their
patterns in treble clef on the left hand page, then the same material in
bass clef on the right hand page. This helps to familiarize oneself with the
bass clef so when one has to read parts in C, such as Liszt's Mazeppa and
Prokofieff's Love of three oranges, there is already familiarity with the
bass clef.
In transposition, I personally have better luck thinking up a tone than
thinking in a different clef and adding sharps. And if you have a day or so
before the concert you can practise your transposition. It's amazing what
the mind can learn when it has to! Also if you don't have time to write out
the part you could just write in the name of the note above the note head.
I hope this alleviates your migraine.
