MAP stands for Minimum ADVERTISED Price. The presumption is that you will
actually SELL the item for less, but you may not advertise it on internet,
mail order catalog, etc. at anything lower than a figure that is, like,
$4.00 under MAP without threatening your franchise. You can quote anything
you like to a person who walks into the store or call on the phone. The
objective is actually to PROTECT the local stores and encourage people to
call or visit THEM for a price, rather than just go with the catalog
price. When you see in a catalog "call for price" that is generally
because of an MAP. Stores that the advertise the MAP as THE price just
don't understand how the system works.

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is TOO LOUD!
