Just as a point of historical interest, Minimum Advertised Pricing is/was a
tool to protect smaller dealers in diverse markets. The idea at least is
to prevent larger sellers from gaining too much of an advantage in price
advertising. I believe it was first employed in the 1930's, could be wrong
on that though. The secondary idea behind map is to prevent pricing wars,
however with instant email price quotes and comparative price shopping
engines MAP isn't particularly effective these days.

That said, once a customer contacts a seller, the seller may quote whatever
selling price they wish.
