Subj: [kl] Feeling like Yamaha is one stupidly run company!

I'm feeling more and more like Yamaha is one stupidly run company!
They have this thing called "MAP" pricing which is the "publicly
written" pricing that can go into a catalog now. Buffet is doing the
same bit. Problem is that this printed pricing is only the Retail
Price!! So you see the retail price along side of "purchase it for
only" which is the same high cost.

I just saw a Yamaha Alto Sax (student 23 model) which should sell in
a reasonable music vendor at around $900 TOPS for $1700. Sure there
are music stores which will sell it to you for the $1700 and laugh all
the way to the bank, but when the same printed $1700 will sell it for
$900, it's just stupid to list it for $1700 in a print ad "get it for
only $1700".

To me, Yamaha is shooting themselves in the foot big time for those
pricing games. They are figuring that if somebody is stupid enough to
pay Retail, let em......

The are pricing themselves out of the market with those "retail only"
public pricing policies. And I don't mean that is states "retail price
is xxxxxx, call for our discount price" either because that isn't
listed anymore AT ALL. Used to be - not anymore.

MAP pricing is just stupid.
