Ormond, I did check the archives on this and found several references =
to
the bore oil trick. I tried it but I think my depth perception is =
simply
not good enough to get the oil exactly where it needs to be. I did try
simply running a thin line of oil in a straight line on the "bottom" of =
the
upper joint, away from the tone holes. It's supposed to channel the =
water
in a straight line away from the tone holes in the bore. We'll see what
happens but as soon as I swab the clarinet out, there goes my line of =
oil.=20
It's puzzling me, since I'm always careful about how I hold the =
clarinet
but under the conditions we have been playing in, it seems to make no
difference. I do have some quick instrument changes, however and I may =
be
inadvertently tilting the clarinet when I do that. There isn't much =
time
for extra swabbing. I've tried keeping the clarinet in an upright =
position
during an entire rehearsal and lying down in my lap with tone holes up =
but
the level of condensation is very high due to the cool, rather humid air =
and
the heat of the clarinet once it's warmed up. Everyone with a wooden
instrument has had trouble with the instruments being a bit on the flat
side, including the piano. =20
I complained to the management today about the environment. In the
wintertime, when we play orchestra concerts, we are sweltering and =
sweating
on-stage under the heat of the stage lights and our pitch is of course,
high. There must be a happy medium somewhere here. It seems rather =
silly
to be wearing sweaters in the summer in there, and summer weight =
clothing
for winter orchestra and band concerts. Perhaps if enough of us give =
them
the message they'll do something about the problem. Christy =20
