I have . . . an absolutely awesome student. . . . I just think 3
instruments [clarinet, sax, piano] at one time may be too much. Shall I
suggest to the Mom that we discontinue clarinet and start working on
saxophone=3F Continue with clarinet and start saxophone at the same time=3F

Christy -

With someone this good, I think you should let her do what she wants.
Childhood is about exploration. I play several instruments (clarinet,
sax, many sizes of recorder, flute, starting oboe) and never get
confused. Simply picking up an instrument keys in the embouchure,
=66ingerings, etc. Rather than causing problems, each instrument helps
the others.

She will probably also play chess and soccer, sing, start a business,
dance, style hair, paint, breed rabbits and join the Heavy Metal
Appreciation Club. The last thing she needs is to be told she can't do
something she loves. If she gets overloaded, she'll drop one of the
instruments (or, alas, all of them) of her own accord.

Best regards.

Ken Shaw
