It was a specific situation I found myself in, in which it simply seemed
that, regardless of what the overwhelming pitch level of the band was
(usually established by the trumpets, since they were the loudest
instruments!), the other clarinettists seemed to prefer to either stay
at a certain pitch level, even if it sounded awful, OR, they preferred
not to play in that register at all.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I do not pretend to always be clear in
what I say. ;-)
