<<Walter, I wish I could have attended that concert. The above comment
reminded me of something one of our french horn players said last night.
Our band director complimented us on our above average intonation in the
hot, humid weather we had. The French horn player said, "Yes, it was very
good. We were all uniformly sharp!">>
I attended a rehearsal of a major U.S. symphony orchestra this morning.
Outdoor rehearsal, 85 degrees, high humidity.
The oboe gave a 442 A. The low strings played at about 440. The violins and
woodwinds were about 442. The brass, especially horns and trombones were as
high as 444. Made for some very interesting harmonies!
(Yes, I know I'm a geek, but I had my tuner there for another reason. I
don't really take it everywhere).
