I don't know whether you meant the Sony ECM-MS907 model that I mentioned, but
that model is powered from a standard 'AA' battery.

Yes, the ECM-MS907 falls into this category.

That is something to consider. But MiniDisc isn't dead quite yet. At
http://www.minidisc.org, you can read about a new format, "Hi-MD", that can use
1 GB discs; and I think they've also doubled the effective capacity of the
existing MiniDisc blanks.
