Subj: RE: [kl] Sound production as a marketing ploy. OT (a little)

I have a friend who swears she could make nutritional supplements =
with
dog poop added that people would buy if she marketed them well and it =
would
be legal as long as it said on the label that the pills contained dog =
poop.
I told it sounded like a lucrative investment and I wanted to be in on =
the
deal if she ever did manufacture such a product. =20
It is true that you need to get the consumer's attention to sell a
product but we clarinet players never tire of finding a new product that
will work better than the things we already have. Speaking of new =
products,
I tried a box of the Alexander Superial reeds Chuck Currie raved about. =
I
didn't like them. The number 3.5 strength was too soft and they =
produced a
sound that was far too bright for my taste. No comments please Dan. I =
know
what bright means to me and I personally did not like the sound I got =
with
them.=20
I also got Tom Ridenour's reed adjustment kit from the Woodwind and =
I'd
give that kit a very good review. I've been looking for a way to help =
my
students out with reed adjustments without using up an inordinate amount =
of
lesson time on that subject. My students can watch the video at home or
read the book and then we can discuss it at the next lesson. The =
procedure
was explained very clearly and in terms that high school players (and I) =
can
understand without getting overly technical. I teach clarinet and piano =
and
sometimes it seems like I'm having to juggle between the two to get the
information I need to help my students with both instruments in depth. =
The
only drawback is that I've always used a piece of plexiglass as my =
working
surface and I fear the glass surface provided with the kit will almost
surely be broken at some point. I love the ease with which I can use =
the
sandpaper tool provided with the kit. I'm forever losing that little =
piece
of sandpaper I carry in my clarinet case and having to go search for =
another
one at the most inopportune times. By the way, I will have to continue
using carrying that little piece of plexiglass in my took kit, since the
glass one simply is too heavy and it doesn't fit. =20
