I persoonally play Wurlitzer A/B which I really like and Bass-Clarinet by
Karl Hammerschmidt which has not the standard in keywork as my Wurlitzers
(But ist is an old instrument, about 30 years old))

Have You ever tried the Reform Boehm by H. Wurlitzer?

Regards Georg

Georg,

Sorry...I didn't read carefully. I have played the Wurlitzer reform Boehm at
a few trade shows. I thought the sound small compared to my French
clarinets. Quality was fine. Intonation was, as expected, different. I would
like a chance to play more than the one clarinet that was on display each
time I had opportunity.

In Lee Gibson's later years at North Texas State University (now University
of North Texas), he had a set of Hammerschmidt clarinets made just for him.
I did have the opportunity to play these clarinets and they were very fine
instruments. Gibson never played these clarinets outside of his studio (that
I know of). He said he was too old and set in his ways to learn a new
mechanical keywork. I feel sure he bought the clarinets with the intent to
use them. I am also sure that he may have underestimated the magnitude of
relearning a new fingering system and be able to perform at the same very
high level that he was known for, when playing his French Boehm system
clarinets.
