I have a thick tuning ring I made for my A clarinet that I made myself out
of a rubber hose washer! I can't detect a sound difference, but it clears
up the intonation on the throat tones from having the barrel out so
far. Accubore barrels come with a set of metal rings, but they can tend to
rattle unless the barrel is down tight on them. In any case, filling in
the gap is far more critical than whatever unmeasurable difference the
material could make.

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is TOO LOUD!
