The amount of pressure that you press on the open holes also makes a
difference in the tone.

Try it and see for yourself. Play an upwards C scale from Middle C
(3rd space) to high C with light pressure on the keys and try it again
with hard pressure on the keys. Lift the fingers at the same rate of
speed and hear a different "ping" to the tone between the 2.

Gold and Silver Plated Ligatures sound and feel differently as well.
Just my observations as a Professional player - no more, no less.

When I can hear tonal difference from pressing harder on open
holes I
suspect slight pad leakage on the pads
related to the ringed levers over the open holes. By pressing harder
on the
rings, I may be sealing some pads better. After a recent overhaul
this
"difference" from firm to light fingers I had also noticed appeared to
be
eliminated.
