Yo Ginger! I wonder if WalMart has seen any complaints in writing at a VP
Marketing or Public Relations level. I don't think they're interested in
crap that is going to be returned for credits. Their revenue is gigantic
without selling musical instruments that will be more a nusiance than what
they can earn (but will they be?). Probably no action by Walmart will be
taken, however, until the actual customers begin returning them in droves
because they are being sold and they are making money (so far?). For a
beginning student, what choices from an equivalent price point, can they
make? Used? Probably nothing. And if I was a clarinet manufacturer and
had a better clarinet for the money, I would go to WalMart and have them
look to sell my clarinets instead. But I have a feeling that for $100, it's
not a bad purchase. If the student wishes to go on, they can buy something
else on credit or whatever.
I think children whose parents buy them clarinets at WalMart have real
financial hardships and a clarinet is a real luxury, not to mention music
lessons.
I believe that along with free medical care, we should also give children
instruments and free, private music lessons. I also think that free college
education is a great idea as college educated people generally make more
money and pay much more in TAXES.
And probably a new, hybrid Honda automobile for every driver will cut down
on the long term costs of pollution. Can I get mine in red? :-) Ok, just
got carried away. Warren
PS. I just had the ironic thought:
What if WalMart decides you are all correct. They take out these
instruments and begin competing with all the music stores across the
country, selling the whole line from low to high. We can buy a new R-13
buffet for say 60% of normal. Welcome to WalMart Music! Greetings WalMart
Shoppers! lol! It could happen. It's happened with everything else.
