Jon:

Too bad! I guess you will have to purchase the Amati or some other brand.
The only other solution would to be to get an A clarinet and transpose the
parts for it. An A clarinet would probably cost you more than the C
instrument but at least you could get a Buffett or Selmer which would be
more reliable.

I am embarrassed to tell you that I can't recall off the top of my head how
you transpose for the A. I think you have to read up a minor third. If that
is the case, something in the key of E would be in G, for example. Or the
key of D would be in F.

Several years ago, I played in a Folk Music ensemble which featured
mandolins, fiddles, etc. I had to play some Greek stuff which I did have
someone transpose for me for the A clarinet. It made it very easy to play.
Plus, it sounded lovely on that instrument.

I know my suggestion is a bit radical but I would be very careful about
putting money down on an instrument which may plague you with pitch
problems. At least with an A clarinet, you would have a good instrument to
serve you.

Here is my ultimate solution: Make everybody else read one step down! It's
about time fiddle players, transpose for horn players. Just Kidding! I am
sure you would have a mutiny on your hands.

Good Luck!
