No - that stuff was outlawed and doesn't exist anymore. The Drug
companies are prohibited from doing that (the payola stuff) and have
been for a few years.
They used to do it for sure! I attended a party/seminar in Paris which
they flew out Doctors from all over the world, put em up in $500 a
night hotels and threw a $1 Million Party for an anti-hypertensive
drug back in the early 90's (Smith Klein).

I was just talking about that to my wife who recently finished her PHD
in Health Policy from U Michigan (the #1 ranked Health Policy School
in the USA).

What is quite bad is when somebody is sitting behind a desk and making
decisions on medical treatment overriding the Prescribing Physician's
wishes.

It's
the reason my "primary care physician" tries to prescribe $30 brand
name
drugs to me until I learned to insist on $10 generics: he gets expense
paid dinners and trips from drug companies. Sadly the ethical doctors
tend to suffer along with those less ethical. But that's what the
medical profession gets for not cleaning up its own house first--so
you
get a managed-care system that has become farcically expensive.
