Delurking for a moment.

DeFranco and Daniels are both wonderful. But...to reprise my positive
rant after seeing/hearing him in New York last fall...Giora Feidman.
True, you cannot get the performer in Feidman unless you see him in a
live performance, but as a musician who plays a "fusion" style of
Argentinian tango and Klezmer, he's not only alone, he's unsurpassable.
He is classically trained (former bass clarinetist of the Israel
Philharmonic). There is a lot of stuff out there, sometimes it is old
and very hard to find. Check the "usual suspects" stateside, but also
look for current Feidman stuff is on his website,
http://www.giorafeidman.de. You link from the current recordings to
Amazon.de, which has them in stock for the absurd prices you would
expect based on the dollar-euro exchange. Or you go direct to
www.amazon.de. One CD (my favorite) is called TangoKlezmer with a
quartet that includes a wonderful bandoneon player named Raul Jaurena
who also doubles as composer and arranger on that CD and on the Feidman
Plays Piazzolla recording. There is also a Mozart CD, a CD of the
composer Ora Bat Chaim, and things that it's much harder to obtain in
the States. The caveat with ordering from Germany is you pay rather
handsomely for the music even with the VAT removed, and then there's the
shipping charge. Plus you have to be able to fake a few words in German:-).

Worth it, worth it, worth it.
