Greetings from the International Clarinet Association!

Although I have been off of the list for several years, I've enjoyed
recently seeing the flurry of message between the listserve
subscribers. Tony, it is nice to see that you haven't lost your
sense of humor since I last saw you. Do you remember that pub in
Belgium a couple years back during Guido's Stage having a few of the
Trappists finest with Eddy Vanoosthuyse?

As most of you know, ClarinetFest 2004 begins one week from today at
the University of Maryland. The dates are July 21-25. Some of the
highlights will include:

Pacquito d/Rivera as soloist with the acclaimed big band The Air Men of Note.
Ricardo Morales playing the Nielson Concerto with the Army Field Band
Chamber Orchestra.
Larry Combs playing the Copland Concerto on the same concert as Ricardo.
Don Byron, Downbeat jazz clarinetist of the year for the past several
years playing with his combo.
David Krakaur and Klezmer Madness.
David Drosinos, clarinet with Zephyros - one of Washington DC's most
interesting Greek bands (with dancers!)
British Clarinet Ensemble
Robert Spring in a program entitled "Extreme Clarinet"
A Chat with David Weber
Colin Bradbury
Michael Webster
US Marine Band ClarinetChoir
Loren Kitt as soloist with National Symphony Orchestra at Wolf Trap
National Park for the Performing Arts
Over 50 exhibitors with the latest and greatest in products, music,
CDs, and accessories for you to peruse.

There will several lecturers and master classes on a wide variety of
topics of interest for clarinetists, several world premiere
performances, and a host of other interesting concerts by artists
from 14 countries. There will also be a special presentation
regarding the ICA Research Collection which is housed in the
UofMaryland Libraries. This is one of the largest collections in the
world of music and other publications of interest to clarinetists.

For more information about the festival you can access the
ClarinetFest 2004 website the ICA homepage www.clarinet.org, or go
directly to the site at www.clarinetfest.org.

Whereas those of you on the other side of the pond would probably
have a difficult time transiting to Washington next week, I hope that
those of you within driving distance of the UofMaryland can make all
or part of the festival. In this day of cheap air tickets and
Priceline.Com, some of you who are a bit further away might be able
to get to the festival if you haven't made arrangements yet.
Everyone has the opportunity to perform in a clarinet choir. This
year's directors will be Chuck West and the preeminent clarinet choir
aficionado and conductor Harvey Herman.

It will be a grand event and I hope to see you there!
