FWIW, I want my clarinet to be in the same place each time I play, and
therefore I don't like the elastic cord models. Once I had found the
right length (for myself), I taped the adjustment in place so that it
can't slip or slide.

I feel the need for a strap only occasionally --- and therefore perhaps
I'm not as fussy as someone who always plays with one --- but I chose
BG's "C20LP", which has a nylon neck pad with cotton lining and a
braided nylon cord. It's inexpensive, and it's less bulky than models
with leather neck pads and/or wide straps all the way to the instrument.
It comes with two attachments for holding onto the thumb rest: (A) a
piece of leather with a slot that slides over most thumb rests, and (B)
a hook for thumb rests that have a hole behind the thumb.
