I concur with both of Diane's solutions.

Moving the thumb rests on all of my clarinets has greatly lessened the
stress on my thumb.

And the Neotech neckstrap works much better than the Claricord or BG
neckstraps, at least for me. It has more padding than either the
Claricord or BG. It offers more support than the Claricord, which is
elastic and only partially supports the clarinet. And, as Diane mentions,
it interfers with the left thumb much less than the Claricord.

The clarinet version of the Neotech comes with a small leather piece, with
an eyelet, to add an loop to most any thumbrest for hooking the strap to
the clarinet. Call Neotech and they will send additional ones for your A
and E-flat clarinets.
