I used to get 4-5 out of 10 with Vandoren. I get 8 out of 10 with =
Superial
reeds. They are better cane, finer grained, better cut and better =
finished.
I used to spend about double the time on finishing and adjusting work, =
too.

Legere is a fine product if you are willing to spend the time getting =
used
to them. Claude will even exchange reeds if you buy one that is a =
little
soft or hard for you. I used to use them on my shop mouthpieces when I =
was
working in repairs. Compared to a good cane reed, I would give them 8 =
out
of 10 and they are always 8. They do eventually wear out after about =
4-6
months. They have gotten greater acceptance on larger horns than =
smaller
horns, or amongst doublers on the horns they play the least.

If you expect consistency in reeds you are going to be very frustrated,
especialy if you are discriminating and are not experienced at adjusting
reeds. If the reeds are the correct strength, I feel lucky if 4 or 5 =
reeds
play well out of a box of 10. I have bought boxes of reeds of which =
none
were usable. =20
There are many good books available that deal with reed adjustment.
There is a synthetic reed. The Legere. It is consistent and sounds =
like a
cane reed, but they don't work with every mouthpiece.
Many fine players are using them. Most stores that sell reeds have =
them.
Good luck
