Hi all,
I have played Mr. Seggelke's highG/Ab (Picksuesses Hoelzl) and heard him
play it recently and I can assure everyone it's a real clarinet (slightly
and quite smartly simplified German system), which is more than I could say
about other high Ab instruments I tried! He makes them in boxwood as well as
grenadillo and they are sure fit for the original Schrammel repertoire. We
even played some serious music on it and it has an amazingly sweet sound and
acceptable intonation. Just the price is a bit of a turnoff. Proper reeds
will have to be made by the player upon experimentation, but in any case Mr.
Seggelke makes all kinds of reeds to fit his excellent handmade mouthpieces.
Don't expect to put it in your mouth and play it well right away though.
It's as far removed from an Eb then the Eb is from the Bb!
Best wishes from old Europe,
danyel
