If you expect consistency in reeds you are going to be very frustrated, especialy if you are discriminating and are not experienced at adjusting reeds. If the reeds are the correct strength, I feel lucky if 4 or 5 reeds play well out of a box of 10. I have bought boxes of reeds of which none were usable.
There are many good books available that deal with reed adjustment.
There is a synthetic reed. The Legere. It is consistent and sounds like a cane reed, but they don't work with every mouthpiece.
Many fine players are using them. Most stores that sell reeds have them.
