Hi Karen,

Thanks for posting moderated stuff!

Since I'm not on the main list, don't know whether anyone offered the
following:

I really like the tone and response I get out of my Richard Hawkins, and his
mouthpieces are recommended by my teacher to his advanced students. I'll
admit that it took some looking to get one that I was comfortable on, as
they seem to be a bit of a race car to the old Iggy Gennusa that I was
playing before.

Regarding Vandoren, there's been a lot of noise about their reeds on the
list over the years. One theory that has come around more than once, is that
the box contains reeds at and AROUND the strength on the box, so that you
might find the ones that are perfect or close to perfect for you even if
they are not all true 3 or 3.5, etc.

Don't know whether people have mentioned the T.Rex of clarinet studies, the
dreaded

Hyacinthe Eleanore Klose: Celebrated Method for the Clarinet.

I've heard some say that it's too expensive, but the way my instructor
usually works it, he will typically buy it back for say half from a kid
leaving the instrument, and pass it along on the cheap to newer students who
want to save some money. He recommends (and I highly agree), that the best
thing to do is take it to Kinko's and have them cut the spine off, then comb
bind (you know, the one that looks like about 40 or 50 little springy rings)
the book after that, with a nice plastic cover sheet front and back. Helps
the book lay flat on your music stand and make the whole thing last longer.

We all, down heeah in Texas, say ya'll and don't be lookin' down on folks
whut do.

LOL!

Ciao!
