Yes, I did mean that most of the lesson is spent on scales. It's hard to
play melodies without learning scale patterns and learning how to finger
them and play with confidence. But that also means "incorporating" parts
of tunes that use a scale, a tetra-chord, or an arpeggio. "Lean on me"
goes like (Starting on Middle C, for clarinets)
Do____ Do-Re-me-Fa_______
Fa-me-re-Do____
Do-re-me- Me,____ Re-Re
Do_____ Do-Re-me-Fa________
Fa-me-re-Do____
Do-re-me- Re,_____Do-Do
Most of my students like to learn "Lean on Me" in several keys.
It's not just "scales" but also transposition, memorization, fingerings.
I just got back from my gig.
The first 2 bars of the "Star Spangled Banner" use the triad and
arpeggio.
Sol-Me-Do-Me-Sol-Do
It is fun to learn these patterns in all 12 keys. ANNIE
