I have noticed this myself. I think on the alto clarinet the touches are
put in a position which represents a compromise between being close to the
keys and being comfortable. On the bass clarinet the distances are too
great for this approach and they are simply put where they are comfortable.

I would think this would be an issue on the basset horn, too.
