I bought a Noblet alto clarinet on eBay, then had it restored by a wonderful
craftsman in Cincinnati named David Lusk.
There was a lot of resistance to air flow until I noticed that the inside of
the bell was tarnished.
I polished it, and the inside of the metal neck, with grade 000 (ultra-fine)
steel wool, and voila, the horn blows easy, with a beautiful sound.
I use a Selmer B mouthpiece, Super Revelation ligature and Vandoren 2 1/2
reeds.
For anyone with an old or restored alto, check the inside for tarnish.
