Hi, folks

I actually specialized on Alto Clarinet for 10 years in the Pacific
Symphonic Wind Ensemble before returning to my earlier love...the bass
clarinet.

One of the best made woodwind instruments in the world is the Yamaha pro
alto clarinet...you can just forget about ergonomic problems. The only
thing necessary to turn it into a "bop" horn is a peg. I added a Buffet
"wolf ball" peg to mine with an extension that allows it to be a "stand =
up"
peg when used on the bass clarinet. Morrie Backun fitted it for me.

OK.....one last improvement....I'm bringing it the ICA Clarinetfest in
Baltimore week after next and Mike Lomax is going to make a mouthpiece =
for
me.

Yep...I'm a clarinet nerd....even own a bassethorn...

I find it helpful on my alto clarinet to turn the bocal slightly to the=20
right (counter clock-wise when viewed from above). That makes it an =
easier=20
reach for the right hand. The finger spreads on my Buffet are ok.

I once played an older Buffet alto clarinet that someone had modified=20
(butchered) by turning the key for the third finger (left hand) into an=20
open hole. Ouch. This was the same spot that the Lark in the Morning G =

clarinet caused me pain.

It would be nice if my alto clarinet had decent ergonomics, too. The=20
finger spreads are so awkward!
