Well, I liked his union rates..For playing we get ten dollars an hour. If we
don't play, we get fifteen dollars an hour....so if we don't practice, we
don't play. And if we don't play...THAT runs into money."

The question of sound concept is spot-on. I can remember every first time I
ever played any woodwind instrument, and tenor stands out as the one that
just left me scratching my head. I could get a Parker alto sound, I loved
the sound I got on bari (my first sax experience...no puns, please...) and
so forth with the clarinet family, and double reeds. I finally started
having some success with my Martin Committee tenor (aren't they wonderful?)
and a Super 20, but not with anything in newer horns until I got it down on
a vintage sax. You are right about the ergonomics. The best thing I've found
but haven't bought yet in current instruments is the Cannonball...feels like
my Super 20, sounds like my Martin with an old Brilhart mpc. They are worth
examining.

Now my mind is trying to apply the sound concept to how long it took me to
produce the clarinet sound I really wanted...thirty years, and it was from
thinking I had to sound like someone else, not me. Ah well...I guess I know
why-a duck and not a chicken!
