Some of you have now remarked that the tenor is in certain ways trickier than
the alto. Would someone care to comment on any special issues for
intermediate students moving from alto to tenor? It seem to me the basics
would still apply, i.e. get control of the tone with an appropriate embouchure,
and move from one note to another maintaining that control.
I am probably the most junior clarinet and sax teacher on this list, though
I've played clarinet for a zillion years. I have two sax students, one of
whom
is an intermediate alto player and who will play tenor next year in the
school jazz band. I admit to never having even tooted a tenor, though my
alto
playing is constantly improving.

PS. Thanks to all who suggested sax studies. I have printed out all your
suggestions, and have ordered a selection for me and for my store. I will
probably have more questions as I dig further in.
