You're both right. Tenor is a starnge beast compared to the rest of the
family, and I have fought thirty years of doubling and experimenting to get
a tenor sound that sounds like a tenor to me. In fact I was told for a long
time I sounded like clarinet player when I played tenor, but my alto sound
was fine.
