Patricia, I love playing those marches also. However, it's not =
pleasant to
play them sitting next a bunch of "first clarinet part wanna-be's" who =
can
barely squeak those notes out, much less play them in tune. Ouch! I =
live
in a small town and there just aren't many good clarinet players here. =
Now
if I could convince those who really need it to take lessons, perhaps =
things
would improve, but I'm lucky to convince them to experiment with a new
mouthpiece, or a reed that hasn't been played for on for several =
seasons. I
suppose you've the heard the old, "but it's my favorite reed" whine. =
Our
civic band, for some unknown reason, has acquired about 10 new clarinet
players this season-only about 1 that I consider an asset to the group. =
Our
band director loves to play those old marches (he's a Sousa fanatic) but =
I
think I'm going to have to invest in a good pair of ear plugs if I have =
to
listen to this group play clarinet much longer. =20

I love the clarinet parts from the marches of that era! They are a riot =
to play, the faster the better; if nothing else, they are good fun. The=20
more difficult the better! :D
