I think that the L. Bassi "Twenty Seven Virtuoso Studies", transcribed for
saxophone by Gerardo Iasilli compares pretty well to the Rose. My copy,
about 40 years old says on the cover page, "IMPORTANT! The Twenty-Seven
Virtuoso Studies for Saxophone transcribed by Gerardo Iasilli are well
adapted for the Oboe. They are very important for Technic." Does this mean
they were written for oboe first and later transcribed for saxophone? It is
published by Carl Fisher Inc New York.

I haven't played these for some time but I remember that like the Rose
Etudes they were interesting musically and not just technique building.

Interestingly, while I was looking for the Bassi, I ran across Sigurd
Rascher 24 Intermezzi for Eb Alto Saxophone. What I found interesting is
that these are 24 original compositions with piano accompaniment and the
price was $4. I couldn't check the price for the Bassi since the cover did
not survive.

I've been spending all of my practice time on clarinet (& bass clarinet) for
the last several years but I may just have to dig into these this weekend.
But now I'm off to my clarinet.
