As for alto players, I rather like Phil Woods' sound. David Sanborn
sounds good to me as well.

I preferred alto to tenor, myself, because I didn't like having to lug
about anything as heavy as a tenor in a marching band (even the SA80's
felt heavy to me). And I've always preferred playing saxophone out
front, rather than to the side, so my sax embochure is VERY different
from my clarinet embochure, which annoyed some people who felt that I
should "preserve" my clarinet playing by duplicating my clarinet
embochure on sax. Ewwwww...talk about getting a rotten sound out of a
perfectly good instrument. I'd still like to have my Yamaha alto back.
