I cannot speak to Mr. Revelli's conducting in person, as I never had the
opportunity to play in a band conducted by him (I would have been in
high school at the time). However, I was in an All-Virginia Band in the
early seventies conducted by Frederick Fennell. His choice of music for
band was fabulous, and the only thing that made the weekend even better
than HIS music was the fact that Aaron Copland GUEST conducted his
Emblems for Band. It was quite an incredible time and I learned a great
deal in a VERY short period of time. I do not remember Mr. Fennell
yelling at anyone, or being abusive in ANY way at all. I DO remember
him being quite demanding of us, but, that is what we were there for. I
also remember being VERY tired! (I think that comes with the territory
of having so much music brought out of oneself when one is just
beginning to "come along" musically)
