My "band in a box" is my laptop using MIDI files and a playback program=20
which allows me to mute individual tracks. The commercial Band In A Box=20
has been around at least since I started sequencing files back in 1995. At=
=20
that time it had some limitations which either involved (1) a proprietary=20
file format or (2) an inability easily to load MIDI files from other=20
sources. I could be wrong on both points because I'm 9 years away from=20
having looked into the matter. Nine years ought to be a long enough time=20
for Band In A Box to offer some spectacular features. During my recent=20
trip to Paris, I played along with my "band in a box" to my French class at=
=20
the Alliance Fran=E7aise during the party on the last day of class and I=20
reflected at the time what an idiot I was because I had some important=20
material on my C: drive which I couldn't afford to lose. I noticed that=20
the table that was holding my laptop was wobbly, so I got rid of the wobble=
=20
by putting some folded card stock under the short leg. I really ought to=20
divide my applications between two pieces of hardware. I'd be most=20
interested in what others have to say about this "play-along" piece of=20
hardware. I may be in the market to buy one. What can y'all tell us?
