I too remember the demise of the Morree reed.

I was a fairly late convert to Morree's, as I had always made my own reeds.
Finally I decided to see what people were exclaiming over. I remember getting a
few boxes of good reeds and then experiencing the very sad decline in
quality. Whole boxes where nothing would work!
I had students who I had to "rescue" with hand made reeds before they could
play their recitals.

I don't believe the "profile" of the Morree reed had any particular magic.
They didn't change dimensions, the cane quality went downhill very quickly.
