When I was in Pine Bluff, Arkansas last summer, I went to the
Band Instrument museum on the main street and saw there a
baritone sax made by Conn and which also had a nude woman
engraved into the bell. The manager of the facility told me that
there was a limited period of time when they did engrave nudes
into the bells of their saxophones, so that is a definite hot
lead for you to follow. Look up the Pine Bluff band instrument
museum on the web, contact the guy that runs the shop, and ask
him about his baritone sax with the nude engraving. (This posting
is hot stuff what with nude engravings.)

Also, how old was your aunt who owned the sax? Let's assume that
she was 65 and played the sax at age 16. Subtract one from the
other and you will find the latest date by which time it could
have been made presuming that she got it brand new. That is
unlikely. It could and probably was purchased by her father from
someone else. But with that bit of subtraction you have a stake
in the ground.

See what the study of nudes can do for one's scholarship?

My great
aunt gave me an alto sax last night that she played in high
school and i'd
like to find out more about it. Its made by C.G.Conn and has
engraving on
the bell including an apparantely naked woman in a pentagon. I
dont have
any clue where to start other than here even though its for
clarinets. Are
there anywebsites that have information like that? All i can
find are sites
selling new Conn instruments.

Look for a serial number on the sax and then check it out at

That should get you the age.
