The switch gets easier with time, and great deal of of playing on both.
The mind learns the switch and "divides" the brain into distinct modes.

After 28 years on clarinet and 27 on tenor, and allot of performance
on both I still appreciate the difference when I occasionally get to stick
to one for the whole a run of something. When prepping for a clarinet
audition
It was necessary for me to focus on clarinet alone for a time.

Nerveless for the function of doubling, effectively switching between
any or
all the saxes, clarinets, and flutes is possible in a breath or two and
can sound very good. It does have its own challenges......enjoy.

> I'm a tenor sax/ clarinet player and i was wondering if there is anyone
else who does the same. The reason is that i can switch from clarinet to
tenor in about a minute or so, but when i go from tenor back to clarinet it
usually takes about an hour of warming up to get used to the clarinet again.
My first instrument was clarinet (played for just over 8 years) and i've
only played the tenor for 1 1/2 years. Does it not make more sense that it
would be easier to go from tenor back to clarinet instead of the other way
around?
