I use 60 Rambles, but not with relative beginners. For my students it's
more of an intermediate book, after learning the basics of clarinet and
the basics of music reading. One of the strengths of this book is that it
does require knowledge of musical terminology (tempo marking, style
indications, dynamic gradations) and doesn't get into any "ruts" of time
signature, tempo, etc. It also has lots of accidentals, and more
interesting harmonic contexts than most other method books, so it
requires student to read carefully and listen to the results of what they
are playing. I think this is a good book at the appropriate level.
