All the posts regarding this have focused on the fingers (except Claudia, who
mentions the throat). Many students fail in a smooth transition over the
break due to a faulty embouchure.
Think of it this way. Almost ANY embouchure can produce throat "G." But you
need a focused, open, non-biting embouchure to produce a really nice long "B."
I have students produce that note, with the best tone they can muster. Then I
have them practice moving down to A and G concentrating on using that
embouchure. It's fun to watch "the light bulb" come on, as the kids realize that's
it's NOT that hard to go over the break.
