Buffet prices just jumped in price drastically. Last I checked the
retail
value of a silver plated R-13, new, is $4860, selling in stores for as
low
as $2399 (Sam Ash Music)

Smash is never the lowest price - you can get it for less at a place
like Woodwind Brasswind, Fred Weiner, etc.
Back in 1988 I bought a SET (Bb and A) of Selmer 10G's for only $1800
brand new that Gigliotti picked out in Paris.
I didn't end up keeping them as I didn't like the sound (so I returned
them still new) and went with Buffet Prestige Clarinets which I still
have and play - at about twice the cost.
