Up until 1983 Buffet made a plastic clarinet and a student wooden clarinet in Bad Nauheim.
These were made in the old Schreiber plant, as I understand it.

The plastic, and the student wooden clarinets were not exciting. They also made a Master Model. The E13 too.

In 1983 after Boosey & Hawkes bought them they re-designed the plastic. It became a very fine student clarinet.
Same with the wooden student clarinet. I did not see many of that eras Evette Master model. The E13 from that period was essentially an R13. I have a number of R13's --two are the pick of 120 I sold in 1975-76. My E13 is right up there with them.

I have seen many E13's that are as good as clarinets that I sold to major Symphonies. I sold one to my clarinet professor Clement Hutchinson, who picked it out over 13 R13's!!!!

In my mind there is NO equivalent to the old Evette and Schaeffer. I have
one from the 60's that is better than many new R-13s, RCs and Prestiges.
The keywork has become pretty clackety, but I will have the keys replated
in the near future and the clarinet will be its wonderful old self
again. It was my first wooden instrument and I will never sell it.
